Elephant, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary:
The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is set in the high ranges of the western Ghats in Kerala, consisting of a National Park and a Tiger reserve, the Periyar wildlife Sanctuary preserves a beautiful lake in the heart of the sanctuary. The lake initially formed as a reservoir of a Dam provides drinking water to the wildlife for their sustenance. Along the sides of the lake are marshy tall grass land areas giving it an exquisite look. In the marshy land are sometimes seen the Langurs and the Macaque.

The forests that covers the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary are a mixture of deciduous, semi evergreen and evergreen trees, The Sanctuary, also known as Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary owes its origin to the Maharaja of Travancore who was an avid hunter and a great natural lover. Spice gardens and plantation estates surrounds the sanctuary.

The National Park at Periyar boast of a rich and diverse Flora and Fauna, the major trees identified are Teak, Rosewood, Terminalia, Eucalyptus, Sandalwood and Jacaranda and herds of Elephants can be seen swimming and drinking water in the Periyar lake and the other attractions found at the sanctuary are Malabar Giant Squirrel, Malabar Horn bill, different variety of deers, stripe neck mongoose, egrets, lizards civet cats and the Brahmin eagles.

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary - National Park: This sanctuary is located where the Nilgiri Hills, the offshoot of the Western ghats meet the eastern ghats. The Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary has varied mixture of flat land, undulating parkland, open grassland, swamp, valleys and nullas. The Moyyar river in this region forms a series of spectacular cascades on its way. 65 Kms. away from Udhagamandalam and situated along the Udhaga-mandalam- Mysore highway, this sanctuary could be reached from Mysore as well.

Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary:
The Nagarhole Wildlife Sancatuary located 80kilometres from Mysore city is a part of the Mudumalai Sanctuary, The Nagarhole wildlife sanctuary was in the early days a game reserve of the Maharaja of Mysore consisting of rivers that flows to the park premises, the 247sq mile Rajiv Gandhi National Park has an abundance of wildlife including tigers, leopards, Indian wild dog, Indian bison, sanbhar, cheetah, sloth bear, leopards, jungle cats, jackals and wild dogs. Other species also found are muntjjac , the barking deer, four feet antelope, hyenas and the mongroves. The park area has a large Bison and Elephant population. The reptiles includes the marsh crocodile, monitor lizard, rock python and several other species seen easily.
